Salary: SCP 6 - £13.47 per hour Monday to Sunday including some evenings (£25,989pa pro rata)
Hours: 25 hours per week (Monday to Sunday rising to 37 hours pw)
Contract: Fixed Part-Time to Permanent Full-Time
Location: Royston Town Hall, Market Hill Rooms and associated Council facilities
Royston Town Council is looking for a reliable, practical and community-focused Caretaker to join our team.
This varied and rewarding role is at the heart of maintaining some of Royston's most important community facilities. You will help ensure our buildings are clean, safe, secure and ready for the wide range of meetings, events and activities that take place throughout the year.
About the Role
As Caretaker, you will be responsible for the opening and closing of Council facilities, preparing rooms for hirers and events, carrying out cleaning duties, undertaking routine inspections and helping to maintain a welcoming environment for visitors and users of our buildings.
Key Responsibilities
Opening and securing buildings in accordance with duty rotas.
Setting up and clearing rooms, including tables and chairs, for meetings and events.
Remaining on-site during hiring sessions when required.
Carrying out cleaning of rooms post hire.
Ensuring fire exits, entrances and public areas remain clear and safe.
Undertaking routine building inspections and reporting maintenance issues.
Putting up posters and banners as directed.
Additional duties as directed by the Line Manager.
About You
We are looking for someone who:
Is dependable, trustworthy and security conscious.
Can work independently and use their initiative.
Has good communication skills and enjoys working with the public.
Takes pride in maintaining high standards of cleanliness and presentation.
Is physically capable of lifting and carrying tables, chairs and cleaning equipment.
Is flexible and willing to work shifts across the week, including some evenings and weekends.
Previous caretaking, facilities, cleaning or maintenance experience would be advantageous but is not essential.
